Hurricane Names

So, I found out that hurricanes aren’t given names, tropical storms are given names and when they develop into a hurricane they keep the name. Hurricane names are chosen from a list that is selected by the World Meteorologists Organization (WMO). At first hurricanes were named after women but, in 1979 the WMO and the NWS added men’s names. The Atlantic Ocean is assigned six lists of names, in alphabetical order, with one list used each year. Every sixth year the first list begins again. But the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z are not used. Some hurricanes are bigger than others. The names of destructive hurricanes are retired and they aren’t used again, such as Katrina in 2005. Katrina is now replaced with Katia. Names of hurricanes make it easier to talk about them and warn people about them. I hope that when another hurricane name with the letter K is retired and they use my name, Kamari.
