Overpopulation of Jelly fish on French Coast
Off of the coast of France, from Marseille to Monaco Pelagia Noctiluca, otherwise known as a jellyfish, has plagued the beaches. They are famous for their nasty stings and were first sighted on June 1, 2008 in large swarms. These numbers have grown. On July 15th rescuers were called to the beach of Nice 500 times for jellyfish stings. That is in one day and at one beach!!
Some of the beach goers and vacationers are just suffering with it. Some beaches have netting to create "jelly fish free zones." Then there are the others who use fully body Lycra suits to go swimming. I think this defeats the purpose of going to the beach.
Scientists say that the jellyfish swarm on the coast every 10 - 12 years for 4-5 years. The only bad thing is that this is the 8th years for this to happen and they do not see it getting any better.
