scientist think this mold could be killing bats.
When you think of something white and fuzzy you usually think of a teddy bear or a cat or something else cute but in this case this fuzzy white mold is nowhere near cute because it is killing bats in the North Eastern part of the U.S.A. The illness and mold strike during bats' hibernation. The mold was first spotted by a cave explorer two years ago. The mold was growing on hiber nating bats, noses and wings. Bats with the mold usually grew thin, weak, and die. Scientists called this moldy illness "white nose syndrome" after the mold on the bats noses. Since the first sighting , thousands of bats in the Northeast have died. Scientists now wonder if the mystery mold is the killer. Once the mold gets into the cave or mine in which the bats are hybernating, between 80 and 100 percent of the bats usually die. Marianne moore, a bat researcher at Boston University said....OK
