Find out a few things about some of the Presidents of the U.S. that didn't make it into history books.
First off, did you know that Thomas Jefferson, (born in 1742, died in 1826) hated wearing formal clothing so he wore shabby outfits and muddy shoes in the White House. Officials from other countries were shocked to see him in his night gown and slippers. Did you know that Andrew Jackson, (born in 1808 died in 1875) had fought in several duels and mostly with people who insulted his wife? He was in one fight that got him shot in the chest, but the bullet was too close to his heart to have it removed, so he had a bullet in his chest for his entire life. Did you know that Abraham Lincoln, (born in 1809 died in 1865) loved puns and funny stories and actually made fun of himself!? Many people thought Lincoln was ugly and Lincoln actually agreed with them! He said that ‘if he had another face do you think he would wear the face that he had?” Did you know that Theodore Roosevelt, (born in 1858 died in 1919) studied judo, rode horses, played hide and seek with his children, climbed mountains, and even had the Teddy Bear named after him because he refused to shoot a baby bear when he went hunting? IT'S ALLL TRUE! Finally did you know that William Howard Taft, (born in 1857 died in 1930) was our heaviest president and weighed more that 300 pounds, (three times as much as our lightest president James Madison) He was so big that in fact he got stuck in the White House bathtub and got a new one that weighs a ton and can fit 4 regular sized people. Well that’s all and all of these facts are true. NO LIE! To find out more about the presidents, look for a book called What Presidents are Made of by Hanoch Piven in your school or public library.
